It was absurdly early when we woke up. No One should have to get up at 4am while on "vacation" but we did. We were bound and determined to be out the door and on the road by 5am. You see, when pulling a 5,000 pound trailer with all you own stuffed inside, and are only able to drive no faster than about 60mph, it takes a bit longer to get from point A to point B...so that means we wake up at 4am. Oh well...I sleep in the car...hubs is a trooper and drives, I make sure to ask every few hours or so, just to get my good points for the day.
After locating a 24hour Starbucks and gassing up at our favorite Shell, 2.99 a gallon, we were on our way to New Orleans. Our playlist of the day, as the day before, was also The Godfather, which means I napped well...but what I was awake for I enjoyed. I'm a girl, don't judge.
Our hunger made it to Mobile, Alabama where we, with the help of some food blogs, located Saucy Q's BBQ. Oh good Lord, it was yummy. We both gorged out on Ribs. We were completely content.
Next stop, NOLA. We pulled into the city around 3 in the afternoon with proclamations of how we were making such great time on our drive. In part because it was true and in part because we were just trying to make ourselves feel better for only being able to drive the actual speed limit, or slower. Parking proved to be a bit of an issue though. In a city like NOLA, we weren't sure if street parking was either available or smart for the safety of the contents of the trailer and jeep. After driving what felt like 10 miles away from the hotel (when really it was only 8 blocks), we paid for the parking, miraculously slipped the jeep and trailer into said paid spaces and said a prayer as we walked to the hotel.
Bourbon street is quite a place to experience, once you're 21 and no longer surprised by the more seedy trappings of this world, ie: "Big Ass Beers" the never ending call of the daiquiris and well, let's just call them "women of the night" in every other store front, wearing fishnets and pasties, and very little else.
I won't bore you with details of how we treated Bourbon street or the rest of the French Quarter...let's just say it was quite a night, one that might have even ended at 8pm where we were totally passed out...in bed. Hey, you wake up at 4am and try to last any longer than lunch time and I'll be impressed.
According to my clock, it's 5:30am now, and we're on our way to Texas. If you have some suggestions of yummy tex-mex establishments in Houston, our planned lunch stop...I'm all ears.
